History

NSure is a spin-off from the research institute Agrotechnology & Food Sciences Group that is part of Wageningen University and Research Center. In this institute researchers try to elucidate the molecular processes underlying quality and quality deterioration in fresh plant products. This work resulted in the development of the technology that NSure is now using for the quality assays.

Monique van Wordragen, head of the research group and now NSure’s director, decided to make this technology commercially available for all stakeholders in agribusiness and started the company together with her colleague Peter Balk. Currently NSure employs 14 enthusiastic and experienced people.

NSure was established in the autumn of 2006 and it took less than a year to develop the first product for the Dutch market - the RipeNSure tests for Conference pears. NSure now sells assays for potatoes, fruit, flowers and forest tree seedlings  in 16 countries inside and outside Europe, and test facilities have been established in Sweden, South Africa, USA and Chile.
