All that is required is taking a weekly sample at your reference orchards (1, 2, and 3 in the picture) and only one sample at all other orchards of which you want to know the maturity level. With this overview of the maturation level per orchard you can provide your growers with a harvest window advice for each orchard and plan all logistic in order to get produce with a similar maturation level at the desired storage unit at the right time.
Most companies today will provide their growers with a regional (and altitude) advice for the start and end of the harvest window for the main apple and pear varieties. This is often based on intensive maturation monitoring of certain orchards within the area. However, variation in crop management decisions and micro climate can result in differences of up to 14 days in optimum maturity within the same area.
